World Orienteering Week event in Howald
As the global orienteering community is celebrating World Orienteering Week (WOW) this week, our club organized a special WOW event in Howald, blending both forest terrain and urban navigation. 40 participants ran the two “regular” courses, including runners from Belgium and Germany. The longer Deer course had some cleverly hidden control points that challenged even our most experienced runners.
A major highlight of the morning was the “string” course designed especially for younger kids. Thanks to Helle’s creative idea, 19 children (mostly from the Finnish School of Luxembourg) followed a string through the forest, discovering mapped features along the way (see the cute map attached). It was the perfect introduction to orienteering, and a big hit with both the kids and their parents.
Thanks to Gabi for designing the courses and being the driving force behind the event, Helle for taking care of timing and designing the string course, and Orsi & Gergő for lending a hand.
