Another Podium Finish for Luxembourg at EYOC
Marie Anna Kotecká put Luxembourg firmly on the orienteering map Saturday with a second podium finish at the European Youth Orienteering Championship in as many days. After her 5th place on the long distance in the EYOC opener, Marie Anna was considered to be a medal contender for the sprint race by the pundits in the arena, and she again put on a near-flawless race to repeat her 5th-place finish in the W16 class, only six seconds from the bronze. A tiny parallel mistake - a premature left turn that finally led her to a wall - probably cost her the medal, but this was another fantastic performance and result from Luxembourg's first-ever participant in a major orienteering championship. On Sunday, EYOC will wrap up with relays, with Marie Anna teaming up with competitors from Belgium and the Netherlands in a BeNeLux team.
