Another fine day in... Howald
The day dawned damp and misty, but the sun came out while the controls were being put out. And the latest LuxO “Family and Friends” – small, informal orienteering happenings, designed for families – was once again blessed with lovely weather.
Howald Woods doesn’t have the best reputation in the club for good terrain – we’ve had to cancel an event there before now because of floods and mud – but for this event it was at its best, with the beech leaves golden in the late autumn sunshine. Club members who couldn’t take part missed some nice courses, with the long (well, 5km) Deer course offering steep climbs and some route choices. Indeed, Jerome took a route that the planner hadn’t even thought of – and it was a pretty good one!
It was great to welcome several newcomers – who didn’t all realise how clever the club’s timing technology is. Today may only have been a small event, but the timing and results are just the same (or even better) than at some of the world’s biggest orienteering festivals. Talking of results – uploaded to the web minutes after the last finisher – they are as usual on the Helga Webres site at https://helga-o.com/webres/index.php?lauf=6344&lang=
Thanks to José and Maggie for helping to collect the controls.
LuxO’s next production is coming very soon. There’s one of our “night urban league” – or “LuxNUL” for short – runs in Cents on the evening of Wednesday 12 November. Full details in the Calendar section of the website. Bring a headlight or a torch!
